NOLLYWOOD ACTRESS JOKE SILVA BIOGRAPHY
Joke Silva, MFR, is a Nigerian actress, director, and a businesswoman who was born on September 29, 1961. Joke Silva was born in Lagos to a four-child Amaro family. Adebimbola Silva, a pioneering doctor, died in July 2015. Emmanuel Afolabi Silva, her father, was an attorney. Joke Silva went to Lagos’ Holy Child College. She was a member of a cultural circle at university that included the dramatist Bode Osanyin and the singer Stella Monye. Joke Silva took a year out from school to work as an actor. Silva then moved to England to study drama at London’s Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Her parents were initially opposed to Silva’s decision to pursue a career in the theater, but they soon came around to support her, praising her accomplishments.
She has appeared in numerous English and Yoruba films and television shows. She starred in the English film Mind Bending in 1990. She also appeared in Owulorojo in 1993, Violated in 1995, and The Secret Laughter of Women in 1998. Joke Silva co-starred in ‘Keeping Faith’ with Bimbo Akintola in 2002, and she later credited her as a key influence on her career. Joke Silva co-produced and appeared in The Kingmaker with Olu Jacobs in the same year, followed by A Husband’s Wife in 2003 and Shylock in 2004.
Joke Silva is married to Olu Jacobs, a fellow actor, and they have two children.
