NIGERIAN MUSICIAN OLUBANKOLE WELLINGTON BIOGRAPHY

On March 27, 1981, Nigerian parents gave birth to Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) in the United States. When he was five years old, his family relocated to Nigeria. He started singing in his church choir at an early age. Wellington attended primary and secondary school in Lagos before returning to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, where he received a scholarship to pursue his tertiary education. He majored in Industrial Engineering at the university.

While still studying at the polytechnic, the singer began building a career in music. The singer launched E.M.E. Records in 2002. He worked for GlobalSpec as well. The singer returned to Nigeria after finishing his studies and spending some time in the United States. In the city of Lagos, he established a new record label. Skales, Niyola, Wizkid, and Shaydee were among the Nigerian artists he signed first.

Back in the Building, his debut studio album, gave him his big break in the music industry in 2005. He also composed Etisalat Nigeria’s first theme song, “0809ja for Life,” which became a hit.

Wellington announced his intention to run for the Lagos’ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the Nigerian House of Representatives on the Modern Democratic Party’s platform, which was formed in 2017. Wellington was defeated by Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency Elections on February 23.

Wellington married Adesua Etomi in a traditional ceremony on November 19, 2017, and the couple married in a white ceremony on November 25, 2017 in South Africa. Wellington and Adesua welcomed their first child in the spring of 2021. They kept the pregnancy a secret, which surprised many people when the baby was born.
