NIGERIAN MUSICIAN ALEXANDER ABOLORE ADEGBOLA BIOGRAPHY
Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande was born on January 17, 1980, in Lagos, Nigeria. He was born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, into a polygamous family with five women and nine children. He grew up in the Lagos suburbs of Shomolu Bariga. He attended Abule Okuta Primary School in Bariga for his primary school education, and after completing his primary school education, 9ice attended CMS Grammar School in Bariga, where he earned his West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE). 9ice attended Lagos State University (LASU) to study law after completing his high school education. He then dropped out of Lagos State University’s law program to focus on his singing career. 9ice had aspirations of being a musician as well.
His parents noticed his singing abilities in 2000, a year after he began his music career. From the age of 14, 9ice had been writing his own songs. He began his music career with Fuji music after becoming a big admirer of Pasuma Wonder. He is noted for his powerful usage of Yoruba in his music, as well as his proverbial lyrics and distinct musical delivery style.
In 1996, he formed a group named Mysterious Boys after recording his first demo, ‘Risi de Alagbaja’. He recorded two tracks with them before forming his own band, ‘Abinibi’, but it wasn’t until 2000 that he released his first official solo song, ‘Little Money’. Soon after, 9ice teamed with other Nigerian artists, resulting in the production of another popular tune, ‘Ganja Man’. As of March 2006, ID.Cabasa’s Ganja Man was released along with other new tunes. He eventually established his own record company, Alapomeji Records, under which he released his album. After the release of his biggest hit single ‘Gongo Aso’ in 2008, 9ice became famous. In Nigeria, the song was a commercial hit. Street Credibility, Party Rider, Pamurogo, and Photocopy were among the album’s other great hits for Nigerians. He’s worked with artists such as Ruggedman, Lord of Ajasa, 2Face Idibia, and others. 9ice’s record label, Alapomeji, released Seku Seye in March 2020.
9ice announced his plans to run for a political office in the 2015 elections as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Ogbomoso North Constituency in the Oyo state National Assembly, sometime in January 2014. He ran for the seat under the APC political party, but was defeated in the party primaries.
9ice met his first wife, Toni Payne, a Nigerian-American businesswoman, through a mutual friend, Ruggedman, and they married in 2008. 9ice and Payne officially split up in 2010. Zion Akande is the result of the connection. After his divorce from Payne, 9ice went on to have relationships with various other women. He has five children with four different women.
