BIOGRAPHY OF NOLLYWOOD ACTOR PETE EDOCHIE
Chief Pete Edochie, MON is a Nigerian actor who was born on March 7, 1947. Edochie is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most accomplished actors. He was born in Enugu State, in Nigeria’s south-eastern region, while he is originally from Nteje, in the Oyi Local Government of Anambra State. Pete Edochie was reared in the Northern portion of Nigeria, namely in Kaduna State, despite the fact that he was born in the Eastern part of the country and originates from the same region. He began his basic primary education in St. Patrick’s and St. James Primary School in Zaria, Kaduna State, because he was born and raised in Northern Nigeria. He continued his schooling after completing his elementary education at St. John’s College, where he received his SSCE.
Pete Edochie worked with the Nigerian Railway Corporation after finishing secondary school before deciding to further his schooling. He had to leave the nation to complete his education, and he enrolled in various courses at the School of Journalism and Television in England. He then returned to Nigeria to work, and his name has since become synonymous with the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Pete Edochie began his career in radio broadcasting at the age of 20 as a junior programmes assistant, later rising to the position of Director. He was the Director of Programs, but he also served as Deputy Managing Director and as Managing Director on occasion. He left ABS as the government tried to politicize the activities of their FM station, forcing the entire management team, including him, to leave. He was supposed to be the one to succeed the MD, but he had to quit to pursue a career in the movie industry. He had previously appeared in Things Fall Apart and earned an International Award. For his participation in Things Fall Apart, the BBC travelled into Nigeria to interview him.
When his ability was seen he became the favorite of movie producers and started featuring in movies which as thus taken him to the current level he finds himself winning different awards and getting recognition.
Pete Edochie is a grandfather and a married man with six children. He married Josephine Edochie, his wife. Yul Edochie, one of his children, is also an actor. Yul Edochie, his son, is also a talented actor who is well-known in the profession.
Pete Edochie had won numerous industry honors. Some of his awards are listed below:
• He was named Movie Personality of the Year by City People Magazine in 1999.
• In 2003, he received a Special Recognition Award, Best of Nollywood (BON), alongside Lanre Hassan (Iya Awero) by Former Gov.Emmanuel Udaghan
• In 2003, he received the Best Actor in Nigeria by Censors’ Board
• In 2003, he was made a Member of the Order of the Niger by President Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ)
• In 2013, he won Lifetime Achievement Award by Africa Movie Academy Awards
