BIOGRAPHY OF ACTOR BAIYEWU JACOBS OLUDOTUN
Baiyewu Jacobs, Oludotun (born 11 July 1942) was born to Egba Alake parents. He spent his early years in Kano, where he was a member of the debating and theater societies at Holy Trinity School. When Olu Jacobs attended Hubert Ogunde’s yearly concert celebration at the Colonial Hotel in Kano, he was encouraged to try acting. He then obtained a visa and proceeded to England to pursue acting. He studied acting at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
As previously said, Olu Jacobs began his work immediately following his tertiary degree. Though he is actively involved in church activities, he acquired an interest in acting on his own and decided to pursue it, drawing inspiration from his role model, Hubert Ogunde. He has acted in a number of Nollywood films, and his roleplays have consistently been excellent. He is extremely skilled and talented, and his interpretation is exceptional.
He has appeared in a number of films and television series, including The Venturers, Angels, Till Death Us Do Part, The Goodies, and many others. Olu Jacobs is an award-winning actor, writer, and producer who has collaborated with a number of top Nollywood veterans both in Nigeria and overseas.
Since 1989, Jacobs has been married to Nollywood actress Joke Silva. They have two children that have survived. Their first child died when he was 10 years old. When questioned why his wife retains her maiden name, Jacobs replied, “She is a unique person. Why should marrying me now deny her and her audience her name, which she was known as Joke Silva when I first met her? Mrs. Joke Jacobs’s name is Miss Joke Silva. They’ve even written that we’re separated and other such things. Joke Silva is her professional name, but at home she is Mrs. Joke Jacobs.”
